My Role

I am a senior marketing designer at Xantrex, formerly part of Schneider Electric. In my role I have had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, ranging from designing a mobile app to rebranding the whole company (brand identity, marketing materials, packaging, product design). I was the sole designer for several years, which had given me the chance to work on every project and be the lead in design. I am now the design lead for Xantrex and Mission Critical Electronics (new parent company). I have had the opportunity to hire and manage a junior designer and was responsible for the whole interview process.

Xantrex Brand Refresh

Xantrex never had any official brand guidelines, the brand suffered from multiple contracted designers and no overall vision for the brand. The visual identity had not been updated in over 10 years and I was given the opportunity to develop a complete brand refresh. I was constrained by having to work on this, while conducting my daily workload and was given a 3 week timetable to create a new direction for the brand. Understanding my constraints, I was able to develop a new visual identity that would be well received by all key stakeholders (Marketing, Sales, Engineering and the Executive team). I took a conservative approach and understood that I would not be able to reinvent everything, but rather make something that looked modern, yet felt very familiar.

What I have updated with my brand refresh:

  • Marketing materials (brochures, flyers, emails, presentation decks)

  • Ads

  • Datasheets

  • Packaging

  • Product Design

  • Mobile App

  • Tradeshow Materials (booth backdrops, pull up banners, product displays, flyers)

  • Website (new website is currently being finalized)

FREEDOM eGEN Branding

I was tasked with rebranding the lithium ion system that was being offered, as the previous branding was not well received. I redesigned the logo, the brand identity and all collateral related to the product solution.

FREEDOM eGEN VAN

We purchased an RV and installed the FREEDOM eGEN system in it to demonstrate this new innovative solution to customers and at tradeshows. I was tasked with creating a wrap for the RV and to create a simple experience inside to demonstrate what the system was powering.

MY CONTRIBUTIONS

I worked on the tagline, script, storyboarding, picking the final voice and music choices and providing direction/feedback with the external production team. My goal with this video was to ensure that our product was easy for any end consumer to understand, as the system can be very technical.

I went on to create a new animation style for Xantrex that has now been used for several other videos.

Package Design

I redesigned the product packaging for all new products and some key existing product lines. Below are examples comparing the redesigned package next to the old package design.

Office Design

I was given a budget of $10,000 to design our new office space. This design was presented and approved to all key stakeholders and I was put in charge of working with external vendors to complete the project. .

Project Management System

Before I was hired, marketing projects and deadlines were all managed via email and coordinated through email and excel files that were not regularly updated. This lead to a lot of last minute deadlines and rushed work. I knew that this workflow was not going to work for me, so one of my first initiatives upon joining was to implement a project management system. I wanted to ensure that we could visualize our workflow, have a platform where we all could communicate and share our thoughts on projects. I looked for the most feasible project management platform and chose Asana and fully integrated onto the platform. The success of this implementation lead to me leading the use of Asana across the various marketing departments of sister brands within Mission Critical Electronics. I created a Microsoft Sharepoint user guide with rules of how to set up tasks and projects. I spent a considerable amount of time ensuring the platform worked across different brands and considered all the various requirements.
